A nine-year-old boy, Y. M (L-6952), was brought with the complaint of Alopecia areata to the clinic. There were bald patches of about 1-2cm in size on the scalp. He was treated by conventional treatment with little relief for the patches.
He also complained of recurring dry cough since 4 years.
His appetite was average. He was very fond of spicy food and milk. Had aversion to sweets and onion. He was sensitive to hot climate. He used to grind his teeth during sleep about 6 months back although he has stopped doing so now.
He lived with his parents and brother. He was a restless, careless child who was diagnosed as a slow learner. His concentration in studies was poor. Often, he committed mistakes while writing. He was quite sensitive and caring towards his younger brother. He used to never allow his mother to scold his brother and was very protective towards him. He used to back answer his mother and occasionally used was violent with her. His mother was also quite irritable in nature.
He was on oral and local steroids two months back for Alopecia areata. He did not have any major illnesses in the past. His father was diabetic since 3 years. Apart from this, there was no other major illness in the family.
Based on his detailed history, he was prescribed a constitutional homeopathic medicine (name of the medicine not written here intentionally) and was asked to follow up every month. After six months of treatment, the areata spots on his occiput and scalp had considerably reduced in size. No new spots were observed.
